I have to admit that my interest in The Ultimate Fighter has waned a bit over recent seasons. I tend to miss more episodes now than I did during the first several seasons, but when I ultimately get them on DVD, I watch them (more or less) from beginning to end and find that I still very much appreciate the dynamic created by various fighters living in a house together, all vying for the same prize: a UFC contract.
It has been argued that the best fighters…

"Dan Henderson is an animal." Words once proclaimed by Joe Rogan while commentating a Dan Henderson fight. "Hendo" has accomplished more than most fighters will ever accomplish in Mixed Martial Arts, and his career, although in its late stage, seems to be building to a mind-blowing crescendo. He has held championship titles in PRIDE FC and Strikeforce, and he…

(from Cowboy Ethics, by James P. Owen)
Gene Autry's "Cowboy Code" states that a cowboy "must be gentle with children, the elderly and animals." Luckily, it makes no mention of being gentle with your fellow man in the cage, or I might not be writing about Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone right now. Winning…

I am not quite sure that Quinton “Rampage” Jackson is truly deserving of all the doubt that we now see flowing in his direction from a significant portion of the MMA community. Yes, he took a year away from MMA after his fight with Keith Jardine and filmed a successful Hollywood film during that span. Yes, he came back and dropped a unanimous decision to Rashad Evans. His performance against Lyoto Machida was not exactly breath-taking and his most recent decision win over…

Georges St. Pierre is an exemplary champion. As more eyes and ears are opened to the personalities in MMA, they see and hear things (though obviously processed through their own filters) that they find issue with. Jon Jones won’t sign replica belts… Rampage doesn’t like taking photos with fans… Matt Hughes has expressed distain for people selling anything that he has signed……

The fighter who can defeat Jon Jones is already in the UFC. There is more than one of them, in fact. The issue is that in order to accomplish this feat, a fighter will have to be on top of his game in every way for the duration of the fight. Here is my opinion:
Jones can be outstruck, but a fighter will have to use a lot of faints and controlled aggression in order to get within range and do damage. He will also need to be calm enough in the pocket to counter…

You won't see Dan Miller trash-talking his opponents in interviews. You won't see him making videos taking shots at anyone and you aren't likely to find him doing any auditions for Hollywood films. What you will find Dan Miller doing is training his ass off and taking on all comers, making his way in the world's premiere MMA organization. This is a characteristic that many of us have come to appreciate in the fighters whose careers we choose to follow, and this is a…

In some of Joe Rogan's most astute commentary to date, when describing Mauricio "Shogun" Rua, he stated that Shogun is "comfortable during chaos." Shogun was not groomed for competitive sports during his formative years. He was not a burgeoning wrestling/football/etc. star who eventually found his way to fighting as options dwindled. Mauricio "Shogun" Rua, much like Anderson…

Two fan-favorite bangers will be going head to head on March 26th at Ultimate Fight Night 24 in Seattle, Washington. Anthony Johnson and Dan Hardy are two of the most exciting strikers in the UFC's welterweight division, each employing a style that ignites the crowds in attendance. This should be a good one...
Dan Hardy has 11 career KO/TKO's and Anthony Johnson has 6 in only 11 fights. With impressive wins over Marcus Davis and Mike Swick, Dan Hardy brings a…

Like many MMA diehards, I will be either staying up very late or waking very early to watch K-1 Dynamite!! 2010, which should air here in the US somewhere around 4:00 a.m. Principal match-ups include, among a number of other great fights: Marius Zaromskis…
